SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Works 2.0 into the same folder (directory) as a Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a installation, you receive the following error message when the last disk is installing:
Setup could not complete the installation. Possibly the hard disk was full, or there was a disk error in trying to update one of the files.
When you double-click the Works icon, Works 4.0, 4.5 or 4.5a starts instead of Works 2.0.

RESOLUTION

During Works 2.0 Setup, select the Custom installation option. Change the destination folder so that it is not trying to install Works 2.0 to the same folder as Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior occurs because Works Setup performs version checking. If it finds a newer version of the program in the specified folder, the program .exe file is not modified or changed.

For example, suppose you installed Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a in the folder C:\MSWORKS. When you run Works 2.0 Setup and select the Complete installation option, you are not allowed to specify another directory; the Works 2.0 Complete Setup option automatically tries to install to the C:\MSWORKS folder. In this case, you'll receive the error message listed at the top of this article.

Installing Works 3.0 to the same folder as Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a does not produce an error message. However, the program's .exe file is not changed, and Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a still starts when you double-click the Works icon.
