PRJ4x: Can't Switch to Window That Contains Project Object (137089)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0

This article was previously published under Q137089

SYMPTOMS

If you open two or more Microsoft Project objects located in the same document (in a client program), after switching to one of the windows that contains one of the objects in Microsoft Project, you can no longer switch between the different windows that contain the objects using the Window menu.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because when you open two or more project objects in a client document, a window for each of the objects is opened in Microsoft Project, and each of the windows has the same name. For example, if the project objects are located in Book1 in Microsoft Excel, the window that is opened in Microsoft Project is "<n> Project In Book1" (where <n> corresponds to the order in which the window was opened, such as 1, 2, and so on).

When you switch to one of the open windows, such as "2 Project In Book1," you can no longer switch to one of the other open windows with the name "<n> Project In Book1" using the Window menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, when multiple project objects located in the same client document are open in Microsoft Project, you can use the Arrange All command on the Window menu to display all of the open windows in Microsoft Project. Also, you can close one of the objects by clicking Close and Return on the File menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
