  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1

This article was previously published under Q137020

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Project file in Microsoft Exchange, you may receive the following error message:
A problem occurred while working with, or connecting to, a linked or an embedded object or its source application.

Microsoft Exchange Client - 10023 - [81002727]

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you open a consolidated project file or a workspace file in Microsoft Exchange if the file has been dragged to a folder in Microsoft Exchange.

Although you cannot send a consolidated project file or a workspace file using the Send or the Add Routing Slip commands in Microsoft Project, you can drag a consolidated or workspace file to a folder in Microsoft Exchange. However, when you attempt to open the file in Microsoft Exchange, you receive the error message described above.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, if you want to send a consolidated project file or a workspace file using Microsoft Exchange, insert the file in a mail message by using the following steps:

  1. In Microsoft Exchange, open or create the message that you want to send.
  2. On the Insert menu, click File.
  3. In the Insert File dialog box, click the file that you want to send, and click OK.
  4. In Microsoft Exchange, click the Send button.
