The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
- Microsoft Query
This article was previously published under Q136737 SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office for Windows 95, the Setup program does
not automatically create a file type (or association) for Microsoft Query
(.qry) files. Therefore, when you double-click a .qry file to open it, you
will be prompted to select the application to use for opening the file.
WORKAROUND
To open .qry files in Microsoft Query by double-clicking them, do the
following:
- Double-click the My Computer icon.
- On the View menu, click Options to display the Options dialog box.
- Click the File Types tab and click New Type button.
- For Description of type, enter Microsoft Query. For Associated
extension, enter QRY.
- Click New to display the New Action dialog box. In the Action Box, type
the word Open. Click the Browse button to locate
the Msqry32.exe file (which is usually located in the directory
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\MICROSOFT SHARED\MSQUERY\). Click OK in
the New Action dialog box.
- Click Close.
NOTE: To change the icon for QRY files, select the entry for "Microsoft
Query" in this dialog box and click Edit. Click the Change Icon button.
Click an icon, and click OK. Click Close.
- Click Close to close the Options dialog box.
