OFF95: "Invalid Folder" Error with Custom Install from Network (136078)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q136078 SYMPTOMS
When you run Microsoft Office Setup from a network server, and you perform
a Custom installation, you may receive the following error message
The specified folder '< path>\' is invalid, incomplete, too
long, or write protected. Enter a full path with drive letter;
for example, 'C:\APPS'"
where <path> is the network location from which you are running Setup.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you run Office Setup from a network server and you
use the Use Source button for the location of one of the Office components.
This button allows you to run an individual Office component from the
network server, without running the other components from the server (as in
a Run From Network Server installation).
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you can use the Network Installation Wizard
(NIW) version 1.1x and later.
The NIW is part of the Microsoft Office for Windows 95 Resource Kit. For
more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft
