MPRJ4: Project Quits When Macintosh Dim Feature Enabled (135991)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0
This article was previously published under Q135991 SYMPTOMS
When you use a Macintosh PowerBook with the screen dim power conservation
feature enabled, Microsoft Project suddenly quits when the dim feature is
activated.
CAUSE
A PowerBook 500 series using system 7.5 has a PowerBook control panel
device that has a screen dim feature. When this feature is activated,
Microsoft Project prematurely quits without warning and without allowing
you to save any unsaved work.
RESOLUTION
The following methods can be used to resolve this issue:
Method 1
Obtain the "Project Mac 4.0 PPC/68K" disk set. This disk set contains
support for both the Power Macintosh and Macintosh 68K models. The problem
does not occur with this later version of Microsoft Project. To obtain
these disks, call Microsoft Technical Support at (425) 635-7155 and request
the "Project Mac 4.0 PPC/68K" disk set (part #076-096-447).
Method 2
Install the system 7.5 update. This will update your system to version
7.5.1.
Method 3
In the Macintosh PowerBook control panel device, set the screen dim feature
to Never dim.
Method 4
Install an earlier version of the system software, such as version 7.1.1.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
