PRJ41: Schedule Not Updated After Accepting TeamAssign Task (134948)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
  • Microsoft Schedule+ 7.0

This article was previously published under Q134948

SYMPTOMS

When you accept a task assignment in a Microsoft Project TeamAssign message in your E-mail program, the task may not appear in your schedule file, even if the following text appeared in the task message title bar when you accepted the task:
Adding tasks to Schedule+ task database...

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if Microsoft Schedule+ cannot locate your schedule file. For example, if you have not yet run Microsoft Schedule+ and allowed the program to locate or create your schedule file, your schedule file will not contain any task assignments that you accept from a TeamAssign message in your mail program. You do not receive an error message explaining that Schedule+ is not able to locate your schedule file or indicating that the task assignment will not appear in your schedule.

When you open a TeamAssign message in your mail program, and accept the task assignment, if Schedule+ cannot locate your local schedule file, the assignment is written to your schedule file located on the network server. When you run Schedule+, the task does not appear in your local schedule file.

Note that after running Schedule+ for 15 minutes (by default), Schedule+ synchronizes the schedule file located on the network server with your local schedule file. Any tasks that appear in the network server schedule file and NOT the local schedule file (because of the problem described above for example), will be copied to the local schedule file as well.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this behavior, run Schedule+ before you accept a task assignment in a Microsoft Project TeamAssign message. This allows Microsoft Schedule+ to locate your local schedule file.

To update your local schedule file with a task assignment that is located in your network schedule file, do the following:

  1. In Schedule+, click Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Synchronize tab.
  3. Click the Synchronize Now button.
