Problems with File Manager Associations (134846)

SYMPTOMS
If you use the 16-bit File Manager program (Winfile.exe) to create or
modify file associations in Windows or Windows NT 4.0, certain special
file types may not function correctly.
Also, if you change a file association using File Manager, the change does
not appear on the File Types tab.
MORE INFORMATION
If you use File Manager to create an association for .lnk (shortcut)
files, the shortcuts will no longer function correctly. You cannot then
use File Manager to re-associate the .lnk extension with shortcut
functionality, nor can you restore the shortcut functionality on the File
Types tab.
You should not use File Manager to create file associations in Windows
or Windows NT 4.0. Instead, use the File Types tab. The Windows and
Windows NT 4.0 interface does not allow the association of special files
to be changed.
