WD: File Extensions Omitted in FILE NAME and DOCPROPERTY Fields (134806)

SYMPTOMS

File extensions are omitted when you update the following fields:

{FILENAME}

-or-

{DOCPROPERTY "Template"}

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you activate "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered" in Windows Explorer. (To locate this option in Windows Explorer, click Options on the View menu.)

WORKAROUND

To display the file extension, use one of the following fields:

{FILENAME \p}
{TEMPLATE }

These fields ignore the "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered" setting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows 95, version 7.0. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
