OFF95: Setup Doesn't Create an MS Query Shortcut on Start Menu (134278)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q134278 SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office for Windows 95, the Setup program does
not automatically create a shortcut to Microsoft Query on the Start menu.
WORKAROUND
To access Microsoft Query directly from the Start menu, do the following:
- On the Windows Taskbar, click Start. Click Settings, and then click
Taskbar.
- Click the Start Menu Programs tab. Click Advanced.
Windows Explorer is activated, and the "Start Menu\Programs" folder is
active.
- Double-click the Programs folder. On the File menu, click New, and then
click Shortcut.
- Click the browse button and point to the Microsoft Query
executable file. In a local installation of Microsoft Office 95, the
path to the file may be something similar to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Msquery\Msqry32.exe"
Note that the quotation marks are required because the folder names
contain spaces.
NOTE: If you installed Microsoft Office from a shared location on a
network server, check with your network administrator for the correct
Command Line syntax for a Microsoft Query shortcut.
- Click Next once you have the correct Command Line syntax for Microsoft
Query. Type a name for the shortcut, for example "Microsoft Query"
(without the quotation marks). Click Finish.
- In Windows Explorer, click Close on the File menu. In the Taskbar
Properties dialog box, click OK.
STATUS
This behavior is by design, because Microsoft Query is a second-tier
application.
