PUB: Publisher Prints One Copy When You Ask for More Than One (133471)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0

This article was previously published under Q133471

SYMPTOMS

If you type a number greater than 99 in the Number Of Copies box in the Print dialog box and then click OK, Publisher may only print a single copy of your publication.

This happens with some printer drivers but not others.

CAUSE

Some Windows 95 printer drivers have different maximum numbers of copies they will print. If you try to print more copies of a publication than a particular printer driver supports, Publisher will print a single copy. This behavior differs from printing under Windows NT 3.51, where if you ask for more copies than a printer driver supports, Publisher prints the maximum number of allowable copies.

RESOLUTION

To find out the maximum number of copies your printer driver supports, do the following:
  1. Run WordPad.
  2. Type a single word.
  3. On the File menu, click Print.
  4. From the Printers list, click the printer driver you want to test.
  5. Type the number 9999 in the Number Of Copies box.
  6. Click OK.
WordPad will give you the following warning message:
This printer can not support this many copies. Enter a number between 1 and XX.
In this message, XX equals the maximum number of copies the printer driver supports. It generally is either 99 or 999. If you print this number of copies or fewer from Publisher, you will get all the copies you ask for.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Windows 95 operating system. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
