Available Data Sources List Empty (132975)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
- Microsoft Query
This article was previously published under Q132975 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Query, when you click the New Query button or click New Query
on the File menu, the Available Data Sources list in the Select Data Source
dialog box may be empty.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs after you install Microsoft Query, using either the
Microsoft Office version 7.0 Setup program or the Microsoft Excel version
7.0 Setup program. This behavior is by design of Microsoft Query. The list
of data sources that Microsoft Query uses is different from the list of
data sources that ODBC uses.
To view the list of data sources that ODBC uses, do the following:
- In Microsoft Query, click New Query on the File menu.
- In the Select Data Source dialog box, click Other.
The ODBC Data Sources dialog box displays the list of data sources that
you can use in Microsoft Query.
RESOLUTION
To add a data source to the Available Data Sources list in Microsoft Query,
do the following:
- In Microsoft Query, click New Query on the File menu.
- In the Select Data Source dialog box, click Other.
- In the ODBC Data Sources dialog box, click the data source that you
want to use. (Or click New to add a new data source.)
- Click OK.
The selected data source now appears in the Available Data Sources list
in Microsoft Query.
