Icons Missing in Control Panel (132885)

When you open Control Panel from a shortcut or another program, only the
following five icons are available:
Add New Hardware
System
Modems
ODBC
Network.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you are running a version of Control.exe from a
previous version of Windows. The Control.exe file may be in the Windows
folder, or it may be called directly by the shortcut from another folder.
RESOLUTION
Remove the shortcut that points to the Control.exe file. Make sure that
the Control.exe file in the Windows folder is the current version. If the
Control.exe file in the Windows folder is not the current one, remove or
rename it and then extract the current file from the Windows disks or CD-
ROM and place it in the Windows folder.

MORE INFORMATION
This problem should occur only with shortcuts that specifically point to
Control.exe or 16-bit Windows-based programs that calls Control.exe. If
you open Control Panel by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, then
clicking Control Panel, the problem does not occur because Control.exe is
not called.
