This article was previously published under Q132455 SYMPTOMS
When you open an exported database or spreadsheet text document through the
File Organizer Wizard, the document can be opened only as a word processing
document. However, text files opened using the Open command on the File
menu can be opened as word processing, spreadsheet, or database documents.
CAUSE
When using the Open command on the File menu, you are given the choice to
open a document as a word processor, spreadsheet, or database when Works
cannot recognize the document type.
The Works File Organizer Wizard bypasses this option when opening unknown
document types and simply opens them as a word processing document.
RESOLUTION
To open the exported text document as a spreadsheet or database, do the
following:
- If the text file is open as a word processing document, close the file.
Do not save changes.
- Run the File Organizer Wizard again. Find the text file in the File
Names And Dates Last Saved box.
- Write down the file location, or path, and name; for example,
c:\msworks\export.txt.
- Click Done to close the File Organizer Wizard.
- On the File menu, click Open Existing File.
- In the File Name box, type the path and file name from step 3. Click OK.
If you have already saved the data as a word processing document, you
can copy the data into a new spreadsheet or database. Do the following:
- On the Edit menu, click Select All.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- On the File menu, click Create New File.
- Choose either a Spreadsheet or Database. If you select a new database,
press F9 to switch to List view.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
