MORE INFORMATION

Q. What is the price of Works 4.0? Is there an upgrade available if I
      already own Works 3.0?

   A. Check with your local reseller for availability and price
information for Works 4.0. The estimated retail price for
Microsoft Works is $99.95. However, Microsoft Works will have
a low introductory estimated retail price of $54.95 until December
31, 1995, based on product availability. For Works 3.0 owners, a
rebate card for qualifying products is located in the Works 4.0
box. Send in the card and you will receive the amount specified.
The CD version of Microsoft Works 4.0 for Windows comes with
Microsoft Bookshelf on the same CD. The low introductory estimated
retail price is $79.95 for the bundle.

Q. What are the system requirements for Works 4.0?

   A. The following are the seven system requirements to run Works 4.0:

      1. A personal computer with a 386DX or higher processor

      2. Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT
Workstation operating system version 3.51 or later (will not
run on earlier versions of Windows)

      3. 6 megabytes of memory if you are running Windows 95 (8
         megabytes recommended)

      4. 12 megabytes of memory if you are running Windows NT
         Workstation and Works

      5. A hard disk with 5 to 25 megabytes of available space,
depending on the type of installation (complete or custom
         install)

      6. One 3.5-inch, high-density (1.44 megabyte) disk drive if you are
using a floppy disk version of Works, or a CD-ROM drive if you
are using the CD version of Works.

      7. A VGA or higher resolution video adapter (SVGA 256-color
         recommended)

The following two items are recommended:

      1. A Hayes or compatible 2400 or higher baud modem is required for
the communications tool and to access the Works Forum on the
Microsoft Network (9600 baud modem recommended)

      2. A Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Q. Should I make backup copies of the Works disks before installing
      Works?

   A. There is no need to make copies of your Works disks. After setup,
store the disks in a safe place, away from moisture, dust, and
magnetic fields. If a disk is damaged or misplaced, contact
Microsoft or your computer reseller for a replacement.

Q. I have a previous version of Works; how do I install a new
      version?

   A. Setup searches your hard disk for a previous version of Works. If
Setup locates a previous version, it suggests that you install
Works in the same location. Setup updates program files and
removes any program files that are no longer needed. It will not
      remove any existing documents.

Q. Can I install a new version of Works and keep the earlier version?

   A. Although you can keep your current version of Works and install
the new version in a different folder, we don't recommend that you
do so. Maintaining two versions of Works on the same computer can
take up valuable hard disk space and could cause errors and
      confusion.

Q. When I install the new version of Works, will my old data files be
deleted? Do I need to back up my documents before installing
      Works?

   A. Setup does not overwrite any existing data files, unless it has the
same name as a data file that ships with Works. This is highly
unlikely. File loss or damage during Setup is extremely rare.
However, it's a good idea to back up important documents before
installing any software. If anything should happen to an important
document, you'll still have access to the backup.

Q. How do I install Works on a network?

   A. Check with your network administrator for the procedure to follow.
If you want to put Works on a network so that others can install
it, see the Help file NETWORK.HLP.
