Conflict History Information Lost in Exclusive Workbook (130559)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q130559

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you stop sharing a workbook by clearing the Allow Multi-User Editing check box in the Shared Lists dialog box, the Conflict History worksheet is removed from the workbook. Additionally, if you later share the workbook again and add the Conflict History worksheet again, the information previously displayed on the Conflict History worksheet no longer appears.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. When you stop sharing a workbook, a dialog box with the following warning appears:
Warning! This action will prevent other users from saving their work to this file! They will have to save to a different file, even if you later make this file shared again. Proceed?
If you choose Yes, the file is no longer shared, and the Conflict History worksheet (if it was displayed in the workbook) is removed. Additionally, the conflict information that was displayed on this worksheet is not saved.

If you later reshare the workbook, the conflict history from the first time you shared the workbook is no longer available. The conflict history information for each workbook is only stored while the file is shared.
