Inserting/Deleting Row/Column on Worksheet Not Animated (130492)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q130492

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you insert or delete a row or column on your worksheet, the row or column may be added or removed without animation, even if the Animate Insertion And Deletion check box is selected on the Edit tab of the Options dialog box.

CAUSE

Normally, when you select the Animate Insertion And Deletion check box on the Edit tab of the Options dialog box, you can see how the worksheet changes when you insert or delete rows or columns. However, when there are multiple windows open for the same workbook, you do not see this animated effect when you insert or delete rows or columns on a worksheet in this workbook. This behavior occurs whether you view the windows at the same time (tile or cascade), or you view one window of the workbook at a time.

Note that if there are multiple windows open for the same workbook, animation still occurs when you change the width of a column, or the height of a row.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, close all but one of the windows for the workbook before you insert or delete the row or column on your worksheet.

Note that the effect of this behavior is only visual; that is, the row or column is inserted or deleted as expected.
