Incorrect Name in List of Users with Shared Workbook Open (129995)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q129995 SYMPTOMS
When you display the Shared Lists dialog box in a shared workbook to view
the list of users that currently have the workbook open, the list may
contain an incorrect user name. That is, the name may not match the current
user name in any of the copies of Microsoft Excel in which the file is
open.
CAUSE
The Status tab of the Shared Lists dialog box contains a list of users that
currently have the shared workbook open, along with the date and time that
the file was opened. The user name is taken from the value in the User Name
box on the General tab of the Options dialog box in the copies of Microsoft
Excel in which the file is open. However, if you change the User Name value
in the Options dialog box while you have a shared workbook file open, the
new name is not immediately reflected on the Status tab in the Shared Lists
dialog box.
When you open a shared file, the User Name is attached to the file itself,
so that as long as you have the file open, the User Name value that
appeared on the General tab of the Options dialog box when you opened the
file is the name that appears on the Status tab in the Shared Lists dialog
box for your open copy of the file.
RESOLUTION
To display the correct name on the Status tab in the Shared Lists dialog
box for any shared files that you have open after you change the User Name
value in the Options dialog box, you must close the files, and then open
them again.
