Works: "No Records Matched the Criteria" After Deleting Queries (129877)
The information in this article applies to:

This article was previously published under Q129877 SYMPTOMS
After you create, delete, and create more queries in a Works database, the
newly created queries may be unable to filter the records correctly. If
this is the case, you will receive the following error message:
No records matched the criteria. You applied a query and no records
matched the criteria you specified. If you expected to find a match,
check the query formula for accuracy.
RESOLUTION
Previous query formulas may be interfering with the new queries. To correct
the problem with the current database, perform the following steps:
- Create additional dummy queries to fill all eight query slots. The
query fields and the compare values are not critical because these
queries will be deleted.
- Starting with the first query in the Delete Query dialog box,
delete all eight queries. It is very important that the queries be
deleted only from the top of the list.
- Create your needed queries. New queries made from this point should
filter your records correctly.
To prevent future queries from being corrupted, do one of the following:
- Delete any pre-existing formulas while in Query view. Choose the
Query View button while in the Create New Query dialog box, or select
Query from the View menu and remove unnecessary query formulas.
- When you delete queries, choose Delete Query from the Tools menu.
In the Delete Query dialog box, remove queries from the top of the
query list and go down. Do NOT delete queries from the bottom of the
list up.
- Always select the same field when creating each query. For example,
if you have a Last Name field, select that field before creating a
new query. Creating all queries in the same field overwrites any
previous query formulas located in that field.
MORE INFORMATION
When you delete more than one query from the bottom of the list in the
Delete Queries dialog box, new queries are mixed with previous query
formulas, corrupting the current query. Deleting query names from the
top or from the middle of the query list does not produce these query
formula problems.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works versions 3.0, 3.0a,
and 3.0b for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.
