Can't Paste Paintbrush Object in MS Project File from Windows (128181)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0

This article was previously published under Q128181

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, when you open a file that was created in Microsoft Project for Windows that contains a Paintbrush object, if you copy the Paintbrush object, you cannot paste the object to another project or to a document in another application.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you insert a Paintbrush object in your project in Microsoft Project for Windows, and you then open the file in Microsoft Project for the Macintosh. When you choose Paste, after copying a paintbrush object that was created in Windows, nothing is inserted in your project.

If you choose Paste Special after copying the paintbrush object, the Paste Link option is not available. Additionally, only the items Picture and Unknown are available in the As list. If you select Unknown, and choose OK, the object is not pasted. If you select Picture, and choose OK, a picture that contains question marks (?) is inserted in your project.

Note that similar behavior occurs if you paste the object to a document in another application on the Macintosh.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, avoid copying a paintbrush object in your project in Microsoft Project for the Macintosh if the project was created in Windows. Instead, copy and paste the object as desired while the file is still in Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Project version 3.0, when you open a file created in Microsoft Project version 3.0 for Windows, you receive a dialog box with the following message if the file contains a Paintbrush object
This project contains objects created in Microsoft Project for Windows v3.0. These objects will be deleted if you subsequently save this project.
and the paintbrush object does not appear in the file.
