ACLCONV Root Directory ACLs Applied to Subdirectories (128165)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager to Windows NT Advanced Server Upgrade
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 3.5
This article was previously published under Q128165 SYMPTOMS
Before you start the LAN Manager to Windows NT Advanced Server Upgrade, you
must perform a complete LAN Manager server backup, which includes using
BACKACC to back up the LAN Manager user account database [UAS] and the
access control lists [ACLs]). When you run ACLCONV (the utility that
converts LAN Manager ACLs to Windows NT permissions), root directory
permissions (from a root ACL) are assigned to all subdirectories (even to
those subdirectories that already possess permissions). As a result of
having a Root ACL, subdirectory permissions on the LAN Manager computer
(source) will be different than the subdirectory permissions on the Windows
NT Advanced Server (target).
RESOLUTION
Make sure that you remove any LAN Manager root ACLs prior to running
the upgrade utilities.
