WD6X: Err Msg: "Setup CopyFiles Error" (128048)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 6.0
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 6.0.1
This article was previously published under Q128048 SYMPTOMS
When you install Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh, the following error
message may occur
Setup CopyFiles Error
Error 14 (Toolbox code: -48) occurred while accessing the following
file:
<PATH>:Microsoft:Microsoft System Information
where <PATH> is the location of the Microsoft folder.
This message appears next:
Microsoft Word 6.0 Setup was not completed successfully.
CAUSE
This error message occurs because there is a file in the location where
Word is being installed with the same name as a folder that Microsoft Word
Setup is attempting to install.
For example, you will receive this message if the folder you are installing
to already contains a file named "Microsoft." Setup attempts to create a
folder named "Microsoft," and when it finds a file by that name already
there, it displays the error message.
RESOLUTION
Quit Word Setup, locate the offending file and rename it or remove it from
the folder. Then, return to the Installer and restart the installation.
STATUS
This behavior is by design. The Setup program alerts you to the fact that a
conflict is present, rather than overwriting the existing file with the
folder of the same name.
