  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 5.0

This article was previously published under Q127132

SYMPTOMS

When you copy and paste text from another application to Microsoft Excel, if the TextWizard has been used for the current session of Microsoft Excel, data may be parsed using the delimiter that was used in the TextWizard.

CAUSE

The TextWizard will remain active for an entire session of Microsoft Excel.

If you parse text using the TextWizard, and you choose delimited text with the space as the delimiter, as soon as you paste in new text, it will be parsed by spaces.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Choose a cell that has a word with no spaces. Start the TextWizard. To start the TextWizard, on the Data menu, click Text to Columns. In Step 1 of the Wizard, under Original Data Type, click Delimited, and click the Tab check box only. Click Finish.

Method 2

Save any files that are open and restart Microsoft Excel.
