This article was previously published under Q126807 SUMMARY
You cannot insert smart (curly) quotes automatically in Works 3.0 as you
can in Word 6.0 or Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a. To produce smart quotes in Works, you must use the extended character codes corresponding to the smart quotes.
The character codes for the four types of smart quotes are:
Opening (Left) Single ALT+0145
Closing (Right) Single ALT+0146
Opening (Left) Double ALT+0147
Closing (Right) Double ALT+0148
NOTE: To enter the character codes, use the numeric keypad. Turn NUM LOCK off, and hold down the ALT key while you type the number. These codes may not work with all fonts (for example, Symbol and Wingdings).
