Print/Preview Worksheet with OLE Object Causes GP Fault (124807)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 5.0c
- Microsoft Excel for Windows NT 5.0
This article was previously published under Q124807 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, when you print or view a worksheet in print preview,
you may receive a general protection (GP) fault if the worksheet contains
an OLE object.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if all of the following are true:
- The worksheet contains multiple pages
-and-
- You have set a horizontal print title or a row to print at the top of
every page on the worksheet
-and-
- You have not saved the worksheet since you set the print title
-and-
- The OLE object on the worksheet is an object that supports in-place
editing, such as a Microsoft Equation 2.0 object, a Microsoft Draw 2.0
object, or a Microsoft Word 6.0 Document object.
The problem occurs when you print the entire file, or when you view it in
print preview and you use the Next button or the vertical scroll bar to
view the entire file.
This problem does not occur if you save the worksheet after you set
the print title. This is true even if you then remove the print
title, and add a print title again. However, if you remove the print
title, save the worksheet, and then add a print title again, the
problem occurs.
This problem does not occur with a vertical (column) print title.
WORKAROUND
To avoid receiving a GP fault when you print your worksheet or view
it in print preview, save the file that contains the worksheet after
you insert a horizontal (row) print title.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft
products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching
this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
