This article was previously published under Q124248 SUMMARY
In a Works document, to replace two or more spaces with a tab without
affecting single spaces, do the following:
- In Works versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, on the Edit menu,
click Replace.
In Works version 2.0, on the Select menu, click
Replace. - In the Find What box, press the SPACEBAR, and then type
the following
which is the special character code for White space.
- In the Replace With box, type the following
which is the special character code for the tab mark.
NOTE: In Works, version 4.0, you can click the button with the
tab symbol rather than typing ^T. - Click Replace All, and then click Close (In Works 2.0,
click OK).
All occurrences of multiple spaces in the document should now be replaced
with tabs. By highlighting text before using the Replace command, you can
replace spaces in only a portion of the document.
MORE INFORMATION
When you replace special characters, if you type ^W in the Find What box
and ^T in the Replace With box, a tab replaces all white spaces, including
single spaces. However, if you add a space before ^W, the Replace command
only looks for two or more spaces before replacing them with a tab.
