SUMMARY

The Printers folder displays the progress of a print job in terms of pages complete or size (in kilobytes [KB] or megabytes [MB]).

Pages

If the Spool Data Format option is set to EMF (Enhanced Metafile), and you are printing to a local printer, the size of the job is unknown; therefore, the progress is displayed in terms of pages printed.

Size

A print job's status is displayed in KB or MB when at least one of the following conditions is met:
  • The Spool Data Format option is set to RAW.
  • You are printing over a network (Windows 95 sends RAW data when you print over a network).
  • You are printing to a PostScript printer (PostScript printers cannot print in EMF format).

MORE INFORMATION

To change the Spool Data Format option:
  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Click the appropriate printer icon using the right mouse button, then click Properties.
  3. On the Details tab, click the Spool Settings button.
  4. Change the Spool Data Format field to RAW or EMF.

NOTE: PostScript printers are not capable of spooling using EMF; therefore, EMF is not an option for these printers and progress is reported in size only.
