WD6X: MacWord Setup Err Msg: Cannot Replace Folder with File... (122792)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 6.0
This article was previously published under Q122792 SYMPTOMS
When you install Word for the Macintosh, the following Setup CopyFiles
error message may be displayed:
A non-empty directory, with the same name as the following destination
file, exists in the destination directory.
<PATH>:Microsoft Word:Microsoft Word
After you cancel the above error message, the following Microsoft Word 6.0
Setup error message appears:
Microsoft Word 6.0 Setup was not completed successfully
CAUSE
These errors occur when a folder with the same name as a file Setup is
trying to install exists in the location where you are installing Word.
This commonly occurs when the folder in which you want to install Word
already contains a folder named "Microsoft Word." By design, Setup prevents
you from replacing this folder with the new Microsoft Word program file.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, exit Word Setup and locate the folder whose name
is the same as the Word file. Either rename or move the folder.
