This article was previously published under Q122658 SYMPTOMS
If you have Lotus cc:Mail version 2.0 AND any version of Microsoft Mail or
Microsoft Exchange installed on your computer, when you run the Setup
program for Microsoft Office for Windows, it will configure the installed
programs so that they have access to Microsoft Mail or Microsoft
Exchange; that is, you are not given the option to have the installed
applications configured for Lotus cc:Mail.
This behavior is incorrect. Ordinarily, you should receive the following
message:
Setup has detected that you have Microsoft Mail and Lotus cc:Mail
installed on your computer. Setup can enable Office for either version
of mail. Do you want to enable Office for cc:Mail?
CAUSE
During the installation process, the Setup program for Microsoft Office for
Windows searches the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder for the one of the two
following sets of files:
Microsoft Office version 4.x Microsoft Office version 7.x
---------------------------- -------------------------------
MAPI.DLL (Microsoft Mail) MAPI32.DLL (Microsoft Exchange)
VIM.DLL (Lotus cc:Mail) MAPIVI32.DLL (Lotus cc:Mail)
If Setup finds these files in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, it will
prompt you to specify which mail program you want the installed Microsoft
Office for Windows programs enabled for. The problem occurs because
Lotus cc:Mail version 2.0 installs the VIM.DLL or MAPIVI32.DLL file to a
folder other than the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.
Because the Setup program finds only the MAPI.DLL file in the
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, it configures the installed programs for
Microsoft Mail--even if you have Lotus cc:Mail on your system.
WORKAROUND
To be able to use Lotus cc:Mail version 2.0 with the installed Office
programs, move the VIM.DLL or MAPIVI32.DLL file to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
folder and run Office Setup again.
