SYMPTOMS

When running Works for Windows 3.0, you may receive the following error message:
Central Point Anti-Virus Warning
File BSHELF93.exe is about to be changed.
This error occurs if you have the anti-virus program VSAFE running and the Protect Executable Files option is selected in VSAFE. Note: the error may also be listed as "Microsoft Anti-Virus Warning."

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.00 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Works versions 3.00a and 3.00b.

RESOLUTION

To correct the problem, do one of the following:
  • Upgrade to Works version 3.0a or 3.0b for Windows.
  • Turn off the Protect Executable Files option in VSAFE.

To turn off the Protect Executable Files

    1. In Vsafe Manager (MWAVTSR.EXE), click the large button that reads "Options" (Vsafe Manager should already be running).
    2. Remove the check mark in Protect Executable Files, then choose OK.
    3. Minimize the VSafe Manager icon.

This error message can occur even if Bookshelf is not installed on the system. There is a pointer to the Bookshelf executable file in the WKSLANG.DLL that enables the integration of Works with Microsoft Encarta and Microsoft Bookshelf.
