OFF97: Document Routing API Exposed by Office 97 Truncates Unicode Characters (120783)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q120783 SYMPTOMS
When you are using the Microsoft Office Compatible API function to enable
document routing, you may see occurrences of Unicode character truncation
in character sets, such as, Kanji, Chinese, and Korean.
CAUSE
There is a problem in one of the API calls exposed by MSOC.dll. Microsoft
Office 97 does not use the MSOC.dll API; therefore, it does not exhibit
this problem.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next
Office 97 service release.
This fix should have the following time stamp:
06/12/98 06:43p 86,016 Msoc.dll
There are no localized versions of MSOC.dll. This MSOC.dll serves the
purpose for all localized versions of Office 97.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Office 97 Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested
and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
MORE INFORMATION
The Microsoft Office Compatible API is a set of API functions for use by
Third-party software developers to incorporate some features of Microsoft
Office into their applications. To use the Microsoft compatible API, you
must have a third party application written to the MSOC.dll API, such as
Visio Standard or Visio Professional from Visio Corporation. You may also
write a custom application to use the MSOC.dll. See the Microsoft
Developers Network for more information.
