This article was previously published under Q120677 SYMPTOMS
When the Sonar feature in the Microsoft IntelliPoint or IntelliType
software is active, rings remain on the screen after you select a window
title bar or menu bar.
CAUSE
If the pointer is positioned on the title bar of a window and the right
(secondary) mouse button is clicked, part or all of the currently displayed
ring remains on the screen until that portion of the screen or window is
redrawn. This also occurs when you open a dialog box or drop-down menu (for
example, Help, File, or Edit) with the Sonar feature active.
This problem is not display driver dependent; it occurs with all display
drivers, including VGA.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, either switch to another application to force
Windows to redraw the screen, or disable the Sonar feature.
MORE INFORMATION
To select the Sonar feature, choose the Pointer Activity tab in the
IntelliType Manager, or choose the Visibility tab in the IntelliPoint Tools
& Controls. If both products are installed on the same machine, changing
this option in one utility alters the setting in the other. Both products
use mutual settings in the MSINPUT.INI file.
When this feature is enabled, pressing and releasing the CTRL key causes
successively smaller rings to pulse around the mouse pointer, making it
easy to locate.
