SYMPTOMS

Opening large Word 2.0 and 6.0 for Windows documents in Works 3.0 for Windows may produce one of the following error messages:
Cannot open file

-or-

Not enough memory to complete operation.
Word cannot open the document.

CAUSE

This usually occurs with large documents (greater than 2 MB) that contain a large number of color bitmap graphics. This limitation appears to be caused by the converter.

RESOLUTION

  1. In Word, divide the document and save it as two separate files.
  2. Open both documents in Works and save as Works 3.0 documents.
  3. Combine them into one document, and save this as a Works 3.0 for Windows 3.0.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Works version 4.0, 4.5 and 4.5a for Windows 95.
