SYMPTOMS
Using the Cut and Paste, or Copy and Paste feature may cause an "Out of
Memory" error message, loss of information, or a general protection (GP)
fault in Works for Windows.
CAUSE
Works creates .TMP files in the same directory the document resides in when
you choose Cut and Paste, or Copy and Paste, from the Edit menu. This
problem seems to occur if your machine has only 4 MB of RAM, or if there
are several applications open on the desktop.
NOTE: In Works 3.0b, the error message may also tell you to save the file.
If you choose Save from the File menu, a .TMP file is created in the same
directory in which the document resides. If you choose Save As from the
File menu, no .TMP files are saved on your system.
WORKAROUND
If you restart Windows, the .TMP files will still be present on the system.
Because .TMP files can cause memory and printing problems, you should
delete all .TMP files as follows:
- Exit Windows.
- At your root drive MS-DOS prompt, type the following and press ENTER:
For example, if your hard drive is drive C, type the above command at
the C:\ prompt.
- Note the location of the .TMP files.
- Switch to each directory, and use the following command and press
ENTER to delete any .TMP files:
