Errors W14 or E98 with Sytos Plus 1.35 (or Later) (119727)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2
This article was previously published under Q119727 SUMMARY
When running Sytos Plus backup, you may encounter these error messages:
E98 Too Many Files Open
W14 Cannot Update Volume Utility
CAUSE
E98 may be issued because there is not enough buffer space available for
Sytos to assign file space. W14 does not indicate a specific problem, but
often is related to hard disk volume append or an unhealthy hard disk
drive. Some network applications (for example, Microsoft Word, Quicken and
Fax) create LPT and NUL files that you cannot back up--if you try, Sytos
Plus displays one of the above error messages.
RESOLUTION
For an E98 error, Sytos technical support suggests increasing the Buffer
parameter in your CONFIG.SYS files to 30.
For a W14 error, make sure you have a healthy hard disk drive. You should
periodically remove the file SYPLUS\SYFILES\SYLIB\SYLIB.LDB. Also, in the
Selection Sheet for a Backup Procedure, perform a "global exclude" of all
LPT*.* and NUL*.* files for every direction on every network drive.
