The Fax Wizard does not provide character formatting options (for example,
you cannot change the font or point size).
WORKAROUND
Use the method below to modify the Fax Wizard character formatting.
NOTE: Microsoft does not support the modification of its wizards or
templates. Modifications done by the user are at the user's risk and
constitute no obligations or warranties, either written or expressed, by
Microsoft.
- Before you modify your Fax Wizard, make a backup copy of the Fax Cover
Wizard or FAX.WIZ file. If something goes wrong while you modify your
Fax Wizard, you can restore the backup copy.
- Open the Fax Wizard file (located in the Template file or the Templates
file). On the File menu, click Page Setup and select either Portrait or
Landscape. To determine which option to select, use the following table
to look up the fax style you are using and the AutoText name you want to
change:
AutoText Name
------------------------
Fax Style Portrait Landscape
-----------------------------------------
Contemporary FaxStyle00 FaxStyle01
Modern FaxStyle10 FaxStyle11
Jazzy FaxStyle20 FaxStyle21
- On the Edit menu, click AutoText. On the Name list, click the
AutoText entry that you want to modify (see the following table for the
list of AutoText entries), and then click the Insert button.

Fax Style Portrait Landscape

- Make sure the Show/Hide button is turned on so all the nonprinting
characters appear in Word.
- On the Table menu, click the Gridlines command if it doesn't already
have a check mark next to it.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then select the View tab.
- Select the Bookmarks check box and then choose OK.
IMPORTANT: With the Bookmarks option selected, Word encloses bookmarked
text in nonprinting square brackets ([]). Throughout this procedure,
make sure you do not delete any of the bookmarks, or the Fax Wizard may
not function correctly.
- Modify the character formatting of the AutoText entry. If you modify a
table cell, make sure you select the end-of-cell marker to ensure that
your changes take effect. Elsewhere, make sure you include the
paragraph marks in each selection you modify.
- Select the entire AutoText entry.
- On the Edit menu, click AutoText. Select the name of the AutoText
entry (the same as the name you selected in step 3 above).
- In the Make AutoText Entry Available To box, select
Documents Based On Fax.wiz (or Fax Wizard).
- Choose the Add button. Choose Yes when Word asks if you want to
redefine the AutoText entry.
- With the AutoText entry still selected, press DELETE.
The Fax Wizard should contain no text.
- Save and close the wizard.
Next time you use the Fax Wizard to create a fax cover sheet, the wizard
will use your modified AutoText entries.
