The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2.0
  • Microsoft Access for Windows 95 7.0
  • Microsoft Access 97

This article was previously published under Q117609
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

SYMPTOMS

When you link (attach) a password-protected Paradox table nonexclusively to a Microsoft Access database, the table behaves normally, enabling you to view the table's contents after you supply the correct password. However, once the password has been supplied by a user, any other user can then open the linked table and view its contents without supplying a password.

CAUSE

The entire file is decrypted when a user opens it with the correct password.

RESOLUTION

Open the linked Paradox table exclusively, so that other users cannot open it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 2.0, 7.0 and 97.

REFERENCES

For more information about linking Paradox tables, search for "Paradox databases, importing and linking," and then "Import or link Paradox tables" using the Microsoft Access version 7.0 Help Index.
