SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure a Microsoft LAN Manager client on an IBM OS/2 2.x workstation. IBM OS/2 2.x workstations support only OS/2 clients (not MS-DOS).

Before you start, find out this information, which you have to provide during installation:

  • network card type
  • unique computer name
  • domain name
To install OS/2 client software, go to an OS/2 command prompt (full screen or window) and type:

a:setup

The Microsoft LAN Manager setup program copies the necessary LAN Manager files and prompts you for disks as they are required.

NOTE: If you are installing LAN Manager client software on an IBM OS/2 2.1.1 system, see KB article 114722: Sys1719 Error After Upgrading to IBM OS/2 2.1.1.

Once the client software has been installed and the workstation rebooted, the OS/2 redirector (NETWKSTA.SYS) is automatically loaded during boot up. The STARTUP.CMD file contains the necessary net logon commands to the server and it prompts you for your password.
