No Network Support from the OS2WIN Subsystem on OS/2 2.x (117460)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2a
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2b
This article was previously published under Q117460
There is no Microsoft LAN Manager network support from within the OS2WIN
subsystem on an OS/2 2.0 or 2.1 workstation, despite the fact that you can
configure Windows setup for a Microsoft LAN Manager network.
The Microsoft LAN Manager client for an OS/2 2.0 or 2.1 workstation
supports network commands only from an OS/2 command prompt. From within
the OS2WIN subsystem, on an OS/2 2.x workstation, you can go through the
motions of configuring Windows with a LAN Manager or Microsoft compatible
network Windows setup, but when you restart Windows this message appears:
The network software is not running. Network options are not enabled.
The LAN Manager network appears as an installed network under Windows
setup, but no network icon exists in the control panel and no additional
network connect and disconnect functions are available from File Manager.
If you issue a Net Use command from the OS/2 command line, File Manager
shows the selected drive and you have access to files.
