This article was previously published under Q117459 SYMPTOMS
You cannot connect a sufficient number of users with Mac Services.
CAUSE
Mac Services is resource intensive and its 1-MB available memory default
setting is enough for only a few users.
RESOLUTION
Raise the MSFM parameter to 4 MB and reduce the cache to 2 MB. You can
vary these amounts (in the 6 MB range) by, for example, raising MSFM to
3 MB and using 3 MB for cache, but the 4-and-2 arrangement has worked
better in tests.
You can also set the cache to 2 MB and delete the MSFM parameter. This
allows the memory for services to use all available memory not assigned to
the cache, and reducing the cache in many configurations does not degrade
performance.
You should also add a line to the ATALK_XIF section in the PROTOCOL.INI
file, raising selectors to 2(# of users) + 2. The theoretical maximum
number of Mac users is 50, for which Selectors = 27.
