Characters with Accents Not Recognized in Multiplan File (115903)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95 7.0a
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 5.0c
This article was previously published under Q115903 SYMPTOMS
When you open a Microsoft Multiplan file that contains characters with
accents, the characters are not recognized. If you have saved the file in
Multiplan to the Microsoft Excel file format, and you save the file again
to the native Microsoft Multiplan format, these characters are displayed as
the pipe symbol (|).
CAUSE
This behavior occurs only when you save the file in Microsoft Multiplan to
the Microsoft Excel file format, and then save the same file to the native
Multiplan file format.
WORKAROUND
To avoid losing accent marks when you open a file created in Microsoft
Multiplan file, save the file to the native Multiplan file format only, and
then open the file in Microsoft Excel. Do not save the file to the
Microsoft Excel file format. In Microsoft Excel version 5.0, you can open
native Microsoft Multiplan files (this method is preferred over opening
files saved from Microsoft Multiplan to the Microsoft Excel file format).
