This article was previously published under Q115172 SYMPTOMS
Paragraph borders appear cut off when applied to a paragraph that begins at
the bottom of a page and continues at the top of the next page. The borders
are cut off when viewing the document in page layout or print preview and
when printing the document.
CAUSE
By design, borders are a paragraph property that flows with the paragraph.
When a paragraph formatted with a box border continues onto the second
page, the top border appears over the first line of the paragraph at the
bottom of the first page, and the bottom border appears at the end of the
paragraph on the subsequent page.
WORKAROUND
Method 1: Move the bordered paragraph so that it fits on one page:
- Position the insertion point anywhere in the paragraph.
- From the Format menu, choose Paragraph.
- Word 97: Select the Line and Page Breaks tab. Under
Pagination, select Keep Lines Together. Click OK.
Word 6.0-7.0: Select the Text Flow tab. Under Pagination,
select Keep Lines Together. Click OK.
Word 2.0: Under Pagination, select Keep Lines Together. Click
OK.
Method 2: Insert a paragraph mark just before the page breaks, then format
each paragraph with a box border.
Method 3: Word 6.0, 7.0, 97: Place the text in a table cell formatted to
break across pages. Place the border around the table cell.
