SUMMARY

By default, Microsoft Project versions 4.0, 4.1 and 98 do not prompt you to merge .MPX files with the currently opened project file. This is different behavior from Microsoft Project version 3.0. The default can be changed by altering the FileOpen menu command on the Standard menu bar.

MORE INFORMATION

To add the Merge option to the FileOpen menu command, use the following steps:

Microsoft Project 98

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Customize, and then click Toolbars.
  2. Click the Commands tab.
  3. On the File menu, right-click Open.
  4. Click Assign Macro.
  5. In the Entry bar, change the FileOpen command so that it looks like this:
    FileOpen Merge:=2

  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close.

Microsoft Project 4.0

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Customize, and then click Menu Bars.
  2. In the Menu Bars list, click Standard, and then click Edit.
  3. In the Command/Macro column, click FileOpen.
  4. In the Entry Bar, hange the FileOpen command so that it looks like this:
    FileOpen Merge:=2

  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Apply.
When you now open an .MPX file, using the Open command on the File menu, and another project file is already open, you will be given the option to merge the .MPX file with the active project file.
