Money Err Msg: Maximum Number of Categories Exceeded (114645)

When you working with a file that includes 253 categories, you may
receive the following error message:
You have reached the category limit, so a new one cannot be created.
In order to create a new category, you must first delete an existing
one.
Microsoft Money 4.0 and 5.0 gives the following message:
Money can store 253 categories, or 255 classification items. To
delete some categories or classification items, you will first want
to determine which ones you don't use.

This error appears in the following cases:
Example 1
You attempted to add another category or sub-category. Money allows a
maximum of 253 categories and/or sub-categorize.
Unused categories or sub-categorize can be deleted to allow new ones.
To remove unused categories in Money 4.0 or 5.0, do the following:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Categories tab, click Remove.
- Click Yes for each Category or Subcategory to be removed.
To remove unused categories in Money 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0:
- From the List menu, choose Category List.
- Select an unused Category or Sub-category and click the Delete
button.
- Repeat the above step for each additional Category or Sub-
Category to be removed.
Example 2
The maximum number of categories were reached in a file created in
Money 1.0 or 2.0, and the file is opened into Money 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0.
When you open a Money 1.0 or 2.0 file into Money 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0, Money
attempts to add some categories for investment activities if they do
not already exist in your data file. The error dialog box appears because
of the inability to add these additional investment categories.
Choose OK and the file should proceed to open and operate normally
within Money 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0.
If Money could not add the necessary categories, assign the categories
manually from the Category list.
To use the standard investment categories, delete unused categories and
create the investment categories Money 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 tried to add.
The categories are:
Investment Income
Dividends
Interest
Long-Term Capital Gains
Short-Term Capital Gains
Tax-Exempt Interest
Money 4.0 or 5.0
To manually assign the categories, do the following:
- From the Tools menu, choose Options.
- In the Investments tab click the Investment Categories button.
- In the Investment Categories dialog box, assign a category or
sub-category to record each type of investment activity.
Money 3.x
To manually assign the categories, do the following:
- From the Lists menu, choose Category List.
- Choose the Investments button.
- In the Investment Categories dialog box, assign a category or
sub-category to record each type of investment activity.
The Investment Categories dialog box by default looks like the
following:
Realized Capital Gain or Loss, Short Term:
Investment Income Short-Term Capital Gains
Realized Capital Gain or Loss, Long Term:
Investment Income Long-Term Capital Gains
Interest Income, Taxable:
Investment Income Interest
Interest Income, Tax-Exempt:
Investment Income Tax-Exempt Interest
Dividend Income:
Investment Income Dividends
Capital Gains Distribution, Short Term:
