OLE Objects Resize When the Default Printer Is Changed (114368)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q114368 SUMMARY
If an object-linking-and-embedding (OLE) object is pasted into a Works
document and the Windows default printer is changed, the object may change
size by as much as 30 percent. This size change will occur as soon as the
object is selected and the links are updated.
If you return to the original default printer (the default printer in use
when the object was first pasted), the object will not return to the
original size automatically.
This problem can be especially apparent when changing the default
printer from a printer driver to a fax driver.
WORKAROUND
To return the object to its original size with the original default
printer:
- Select the object.
- From the Edit menu, choose Links.
- Select Update Links.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior is by design. Some OLE servers render an OLE object
differently, depending on the current printer. When you change the
default printer, the system asks all OLE objects that care about the
printer to update themselves (which may cause a size change). The
object changes size after it was first pasted because the initial
object is the screen version of the object, and all updates to the
object are the printer version.
