SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you make a selection on the timescale portion of the Resource Usage view, and you choose the Zoom In button on the Standard toolbar, the selection on the timescale sheet changes.

In Microsoft Project 98/2000, this also applies to the Task Usage view.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In the Resource Usage view, you can select time on the timescale portion that is assigned to a particular resource. However, if you then use the Zoom In or Zoom Out buttons on the Standard toolbar to view your project with a larger or smaller timescale, the selection on the timescale portion changes to include more or less assigned work than was included in your original selection.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In a new project, enter a task, T1. Select T1.
  2. From the Standard toolbar, choose the Resource Assignment button. In the Name column, type Res1 and press ENTER. Choose the Assign button.
  3. From the View menu, choose Resource Usage. On the timescale portion, select 8h time assignment for T1.
  4. From the Standard toolbar, choose the Zoom In button.
The selection on the timescale portion is from 12 AM to 6 AM. The time that T1 is assigned, from 6 AM to 12 PM and from 12 PM to 6 PM, is no longer selected.
