Sharing Project Resource Information Displayed in Merged Window (113649)

CAUSE

This is by design in Microsoft Project. When a visually merged window consists of a resource pool and one or more of the files that shares resources from this pool, the Resource Usage and Resource Graph views in the merged window contain data from all open projects that also share resources from the pool (not just from the projects that are contained in the visually merged window).

Steps to Reproduce Behavior in version 98

1. In a new project, choose the Resource Assignment button from the Standard toolbar.
2. In the Name column, type Res1 and press ENTER.
3. From the File menu, choose New. From the Insert menu, choose Project. From the Tools menu, select Resources, then Share Resources. Select the Use Resources From: option, and select Project1 from the From list. Choose OK.
4. In the new project, Project2, enter a task, T1. Select T1. From the Resource Assignment dialog box, select Res1, and choose Assign.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4.
6. From the Window menu, choose New Window. From the Projects list, select Project1, hold down the CTRL key, and select Project2. Choose OK.
7. From the Window menu, choose split. Select the view in the upper pane, and choose Resource Usage from the View menu. Select the view in the lower pane, and choose Gantt Chart from the View menu.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior in version 4.x

1. In a new project, choose the Resource Assignment button from the Standard toolbar.
2. In the Name column, type Res1 and press ENTER.
3. From the File menu, choose New. From the Tools menu, choose Multiple Projects, and then choose Share Resources. Select the Use Resources option, and select Project1 from the From list. Choose OK.
4. In the new project, Project2, enter a task, T1. Select T1. From the Resource Assignment dialog box, select Res1, and choose Assign.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4.
6. From the Window menu, choose New Window. From the Projects list, select Project1, hold down the CTRL key, and select Project2. Choose OK.
7. From the Window menu, choose split. Select the view in the upper pane, and choose Resource Usage from the View menu. Select the view in the lower pane, and choose Gantt Chart from the View menu.

The Resource Usage view contains work from both Project2 and Project3, and the Gantt Chart displays the tasks from both Project2 and Project3, even though Project3 is not included in the visually merged window.
