(default) Message in BOOT.INI Causes STOP Message (0x0000006B) (113542)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1
This article was previously published under Q113542 SYMPTOMS
The entry "NT (default)" is erroneously added to the Windows NT flexboot
menu. Selecting it results in this STOP message:
STOP: 0x0000006B
CAUSE
There is a trailing space at the end of the DEFAULT= line in the [boot
loader] section of BOOT.INI.
RESOLUTION
Use an ASCII text editor, such as Notepad, to remove any spaces at the end
of the DEFAULT= line. This removes the NT (default) entry in the Windows NT flexboot menu, thus eliminating the STOP message.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.
