SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you enter a recurring task, and you change the start date of an individual occurrence of the task, the start date changes back to the original start date if you choose OK in the Recurring Task Information dialog box.

CAUSE

The above behavior occurs when your project is scheduled from the Project Start Date, and the individual occurrence of the task has a constraint of Start No Earlier Than. These are the default settings for both the project and the recurring task.

The same behavior occurs when your project is scheduled from the Project Finish Date, and the individual occurrence of the task has a constraint of Start No Later Than.

WORKAROUND

If you want to change the start date of an individual recurring task without having the start date change back to the original date, do the following:
  • If your project is scheduled from the Project Start Date, change the constraint on the individual recurring task to a type other than Start No Earlier Than.

  • If your project is scheduled from the Project Finish Date, change the constraint on the individual recurring task to a type other than Start No Later Than.
