Drag and Drop Chart into Word Processor Inserts Wrong or GPFs (113457)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q113457 SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to drag and drop a copy of a Spreadsheet chart into a Word
Processor document, Works may insert the wrong chart or cause a general
protection (GP) fault in MSWORKS.EXE. This may occur if the open document
windows in Works have been cascaded (either with the Cascade option on the
Window menu or by simply opening the windows).
Works attempts to copy the active chart when you drag and drop a chart into
a Word Processor document. The active chart is the chart in the "active
position" on the list displayed under the Chart option of the View menu.
The "active position" is the first chart on the list and it can only be
changed by choosing Copy from the Edit menu while viewing another chart
(then the position of that chart becomes active).
With the Works document windows cascaded, dragging and dropping any chart
into the Word Processor will insert a copy of the chart in the "active
position" if one exists, otherwise it will cause a GP fault in MSWORKS.EXE.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0 for
Windows. This problem was corrected in Works version 3.0a for Windows.
To drag and drop a chart from a Spreadsheet document into a Word Processor
document without experiencing the problem, do one of the following:
- Choose Copy from the Edit menu while viewing the chart, before dragging
it to the Word Processor module (this will make it the chart in the
"active position").
-or-
- Tile the open document windows by choosing Tile from the Window menu in
Works, before dragging the chart to the Word Processor module (the
"active position" is not used when the document windows are tiled).
